History in the making: The New York Queensbridge Rap & lyricist legend Nasir jones and Jamaica's finest Marley Breed Damian Marley unit to speak up for and about Africa through this upcoming album "Distant Relatives". U got it it's a family affair and when it is so, Ocean nor History differences can't come in the way. And here they are producing this equally unexpected (at least before the first time they mentioned about a year ago) and unlikely album which will probably be like no other at least in its genre.
I've always been ultra receptive when Music could rhyme with 'Sense' and 'Purpose' therefore I'm more than curious to experience this project as soon as it comes out.
As individual artists Nas and Damian Marley have been more or less equally appreciated for their music as well as their conscious lyrics. Even throughout his early Illmatic days Nas always expressed more that street rap in his lyrics. If you'd listend close enough you could always hear the great mind of a Queens kid that new that there was more to it than just the rap game. Later tracks like "If I Ruled the World", 'Black Girl Lost' or "I Can" to name a few made it clear about Nas fiber.
As Far as Damian Marley I guess great music & activism are simply part of his family DNA.

Lupe Fiasco - Enemy of the State: A Love Story Mixtape

Même s'il n'a pas figuré dans le top 10 des MC d'MTV (pas forcément une référence en la matière), Lupe Fiasco est un des artistes rap qui compte le plus ces dernières années au regard de la qualité de la musique qu'il produit et le discours souverain, réflechi et malicieux qu'il propose dans sa musique.

Le chemin vers le prochain album a commencé puisque Lupe commence depuis peu a innonder le web de freestyles en tout genre et plus dernierement voici sa nouvelle mixtape.
Il a déclaré récemment que cette fois il visait le top (d'un point de vu reconnaissance) et il oui il veut ni plus ni moins etre considéré comme le meilleur MC apres Eminem qui d'apres lui est peut-être trop dificile à surpasser.
Perso j'adore cet esprit. Le rap est effectivement une musique où la competitivité s'exprime davantage que dans les autre genres et je n'y vois aucune objection lorsqu'elle est basée sur l'artistique et ds le respect du genre. Cela permet d'élever le débat.. et parfois c'est nécéssaire!

Cryptonites: SuperProducers!

The Swiss producers duo Cryptonites, are living up to their reputation of elusiveness.
Two years ago, they appeared for the first time on myspace. Only a few weeks later, they received a lot of support from well-known blogs and their initial productions were spread over the internet.
In May 2008, they released their first EP called «Hands of God EP» on their very own label Destruction Music.
DJ-gigs all over Europe were the result of it. They played several events in France, Hungary, Norway, Portugal, Austria, Italy and Germany together with big names such as MSTRKRFT, Shadow Dancer, Feadz, Les Petits Pilous, Sinden and Punks Jump Up.
Back in the studio, they started doing remixes for the Australian electro-pop band Grafton Primary, German shooting stars Jennifer Rostock as well as fellow producers like Raw Man, Russ Chimes and Futurecop!
One year later in June 2009, they announced their second EP;«Boots Electric EP» which includes three new productions of the duo as well as a remix of German producer Saint Pauli. The positive feedback of DJs all around the globe leave no doubt that this is just the beginning of a long journey for these two guys.

Grems - "Dimanche"

J'ai eu la chance de voir ce clip il ya déjà plusieurs mois de cela et je peux dire que j'attendais de le revoir avec impatience. A l'époque la magnitude de cet météorite venu d'un autre monde (en passant par le 20ème héhé) m'avait frappé en pleine gueule.. Il s'agit d'une des plus grosses sensation musicale et vidéo que j'ai eu ces dernières années et je n'exagère pas. Rarement le rap français n'a proposé qqch d'aussi neuf, novateur et maîtrisé. Quant à la réal du clip de Tony Truand c'est tout simplement du sur mesure tant le clip sert la chanson. La complicité entre Grems et TonyT en est sans doute pour quelque chose.

Grems (membre du groupe RougeALèvres) est pour moi un

des artistes rap français (ou devrais-je dire Deephop) le plus talentueux et progressiste de l'hexagone. Loin de toute la mouvance Skyrock et tout aussi loin de la trop souvent creuse scène électro, Grems et son équipe d'irréductibles continuent de se frayer son propre chemin sur des sentiers inexplorés. Armé d'une passion presque pathologique pour la musique, d'un drive viscéral et d'une confiance justifiée par le talent et le travail, il converti tous ceux qu'il croise et ça n'est que le début mais assez parlé écoutez et regardez plutôt.

I've been lucky enough to watch this video two months ago and ever since I was waiting until it drops and here it is.

At the time the magnitude of the this meteorite coming from outta space hit me right in the head. It is to me one of the greatest video and musical sensation I had these past years and I mean it. In my eyes rarely has French rap brought something as new as innovative and as accomplished as this project. The video and the song is simply a perfect match that was only possible thanks to the talent and the complicity of Grems and director Tony Truand.

Grems (also member of group RougesALèvres) is without

a doubt one of France's brightest talent. As far from the mainstream rap radio movement as from the too often over hyped electro scene, Grems has consistently kept on drawing his own path in a no mens land. Grems is driven with a fanatic passion for music & flows and bears a cokiness that is justified as well by the talent as by the work ethic but enough with the talking just listen, watch and enjoy.

Okay so it's that time again when MTV comes with this list. Even though I cannot always agree with all their lists I do appreciate the conversation it generates and I believe that's why they did it. Plus the panel this year is a great one with people who know what they're talking about.

The criteria to make the list are: Lyrics, Flow, Impact, Buzz, Sales & Intangibles rolleld up in one. People also need to understand that this is an American point of view.

So back to that list now! Here it is:

A chaque fois cette liste fais couler de l'encre et de la controverse tant elle est sujet de désaccord auprès des Hip Hop heads des 4 coins du monde. Et si comme tout le monde je ne suis pas toujours d'accord avec ces listes, j'apprécie le dialogue qu'elles génèrent. De plus cet année le panel choisi est constitué de personnes qui savent de quoi elles parlent. Les critères déterminants de ce classement sont: Les paroles, le flow, l'impact, le buzz, les ventes et ce qui est intangible.

Egalement il faut garder en tête qu'il sagit d'un point de vue américain.

Je suis assez d'accord avec cette liste à part pour l'énorme oubli d'Eminem et Lupe. Gucci Mane ne serait pas forcement sur ma liste mais par contre j'aurai pu y trouver une place pour Kid Cudi.

New Kid On The Block: TIMON LAXNES

Une nouvelle vague nous arrive des côtes normandes j'ai nommé Timon Laxness. Si vous êtes de la région vous avez surement entendu parlé des soirées Party Shivers qui drainent des foules massives de fêtards aux Planches de Deauville, le fief de Timon. On a pu y voir à ses côtés Don Rimini, the Toxic Avenger, Minitel Rose ou encore Mustard Pimp. L'image de cette boîte pourrait fausser la perception qu on peut avoir de ce jeune DJ mais il n'en est rien, Timon est un vrai passionné. Mixe et production, le garçon est présent sur les deux fronts. Jugez par vous même avec sa summer mixtape "Timon On The Rocks" qui devrait nous tenir chaud encore un bon moment.

Egalement ces dernières productions au titre quelquepeu prétentieux mais qui néanmoins envoient.

Slaughterhouse - The One

First Slaughterhouse was just a song with hungry MCs spitting with fury. Without necessarily knowing it these rappers had more in common than just bars. All of them were known to have great mic skillz, all of them have more or less had a shot at celebrity but none of them really had a career. This may change now

Of course I'm speaking of disturbed Joe Budden, Joel Ortiz, Royce da 5'9" & Crooked I who now form supergroup "Slaughterhouse" which is arguably the best rap group of the moment. No gimmick, Dope Beats & very sick bars could be a good way to describe their style. we like it a lot here @ TTB so here is the new dope track/video of their upcoming album + a few links to previous great sounds of theirs

Au départ 'Slaughterhouse' (abattoir) n'était qu'un morceau ou 4 MCs (j'oublie volontairement Nino Bless) n'avait que pour seul objectif de faire de la boucherie (comme son nom l'indique) en l'espace de 24 mesures.

Sans forcement le savoir ces 4 artificiers avaient beaucoup en commun. A savoir beaucoup de talent, une longue histoire mais une petite ou pas de carrière du tout.

Il s'agit évidemment de Joe Budden, Joel Ortiz, Crooked I & Royce da 5'9" bien connus pour leur aptitude a découper tous tous ce qui fait Poom Poom Tchak. Ce 1er titre a donc bientôt donné lieu à un 2ème puis un troisième en passant par plusieurs freestyles radio jusqu'à ce que l'évidence ne soit plus contestable: Slaughterhouse est un groupe de rap et probablement même le meilleur du moment.

L'alchimie fonctionne à merveille et surtout cela fait tellement plaisir d'avoir un group de rap ou chaque membre sait rapper!.. Et de quelle manière?!

Vous l'aurez compris ici il ne s'agit pas de gimmick ou d'image à outrance mais bien de skillz.

A TTB on est fan. L'album arrive bientôt alors restez à l'écoute.

So after all that crazy buzz about Drake and especially this song here is the video... I don't think it has lived up to the quality of the song but it's still fresh. The fact Kanye directed it just tells me a bit more how big they're trying to make this kid Drake. With drake on the label, Young Money might just be the next Roc-a-Fella. Stay tuned for chapter 2

Donc après tout ce buzz autour du jeune rappeur canadien, voici son premier clip officiel "Best I Ever Had" réalisé par Kanye West... Et je dois dire que je suis déçu du résultat. Si l'on considère que le titre était déjà très fort, le buzz de Drake énorme et que par dessus tout c'est Kanye West à la réal du clip, on est en droit d'attendre une petite valeur ajoutée au final. Mais il n'en est rien... Le clip est sympa mais ne sert pas le sentiment de cet excellent morceau dans lequel un jeune rappeur de 22 ans n'a pas peur de parler de ses sentiments pour celle qui l'aime (pas toujours commun dans le Hip Hop). En tout cas ça n'est que le début so stay tuned.

Mr Hudson ft Kanye "Supernova"

If you from the UK there's a chance you've heard of him as Mr Hudson (formerly Mr Hudson & the Library), the latest Kanye's signé, is a Bristish product who' been playing for a moment. (Ask my man Tony!) I would describe Hudson's style as soulfoul vocals, effective melancholic melodies and urban poetry like lyrics (sometimes I feel you could rap his lyrics) all wrapped up in musical compositions with various influences such as rock, pop, rap, jazz.. you name it.

When asked about his influences Hudson mentions  Chet Baker, David Bowie, The Police, Andre 3000, Marvin Gaye, The Specials, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzee Rascal..

Best of Outkast by Just Dizle

Last week I was rehearsing my set for our party with Dizle who was cool enough to take time to teach me the basics of Djaying. By the way the kid is talented and foremost he got a great hip hop culture and a bad ass music library! No joke. One day he received an e-mail from a radio guy in the States asking him if he did the "Jeru the Damaja mix". Obviously he didn't since he told me "yo E I just need to do this one thing quick". So he basicaly improvised a 40+ min mix of Jeru material and recorded it live.  The mix is simply Banging! The selection, The cuts, the mix, everything folded perfectly like it had been ready for a while just waiting to be recorded. I was impressed and he got that and told me "You haven't suscribe to my podcast? You missing out!" indeed I was missing out!
